Shankar Mahadevan has always been a favorite artist, right from the time when he left everyone breathless. The following video is one his compositions from the movie version of the famous Marathi play, Katyar Kaljat Ghusli.
Sur Niraagas Ho
The original play is one of its kind, a legend. Pt. Vasantrao Deshpande had played a key role, and there were beautiful songs (Natya Sangeet) composed by Pt.Jitendra Abhisheki.
Over the years, the songs have been rendered by many notable artists, including Rahul Deshpande, Mahesh Kale, Pt. Shounak Abhisheki, etc. The play was also recreated by the former two, who are extremely talented and true masters in their own right. When director Subodh Bhave took it to another whole level and decided to make a movie of it, he knew very well he was playing with fire. He took no chances, and he managed to enrol some of the finest artists available, and also gambled with chance, to rope in Shankar Mahadevan. And it looks like his gamble worked, and he's struck gold! There are wonderful renditions of known Natya geet, plus there are new compositions too. Sharing one such beauty, Sur Niraagas Ho, here.
